This chapter discusses a hoax from the 1800s, around the time that lenses were being developed. New lenses gave people the ability to see things they'd never seen before. Telescopes brought people to space, while microscopes showed the micro world.

The hoax claimed that a new telescope was developed that let people see a crazy bat-human ecosystem on the moon. The story was supported by detailed description of the technology and business behind the telescope, and printed in The Sun. It was so fantastical, that maybe people wanted to believe the story, including the publication.

Instead of eventually acknowledging the hoax, The Sun claimed that the telescope was no longer around.

I like the parallels to modern artificial intelligence technology. As technology creates new ways of seeing, it becomes (at least temporarily) difficult to discern what is true. This is especially the case with things that we want to believe, due to moral view, belief, or fantasy.

I like this frottage technique of grabbing textures from the real world into your work. The final composition looks beautiful and organic. And mixed with these more geometric shapes..

This could be done digitally by scanning in 3d textures and using them in other 3d forms.
